News Desk: Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested Rangamati businessman (36) main accused Latrus Chakma Prakash Ing Prakash Njoy Chakma (22). The hammer used in the murder was recovered from him at that time.
The businessman was killed for snatching Tk 4,000, police said. He was arrested on Thursday (January 8th) from a deep forest in the remote hills of Ranchhara area of Langadu police station. The arrested is the son of Shantimoy Chakma of Galachhari area of Langadu Union. Chittagong District PBI Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan confirmed the matter. He said that on August 10 last year, an unidentified man (38) was rescued from a ditch in the middle of the back of the Bangladesh Armed Forces Board Office of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station. Bloody cuts were found on various parts of the body with hammers and sharp weapons. Later, the police filed a case against the unidentified miscreants at Kotwali police station.
The PBI started investigating the Chittagong district case on the instructions of a wise court. The killer was identified with the help of information technology. Later on Thursday, the main accused Latrus Chakma was arrested in a raid on the remote hill of Langadur. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to killing the businessman. He further said that the accused Latrus Chakma stated that the victim was a mango trader. On the day of the incident, the victim, thinking that he had a large sum of money from the sale of mangoes, offered to spend the night and brought him to the furniture shop of Latrus Chakma. Later, when the victim took out money for dinner, he saw more money from the victim and planned to kill him.
The killers later dumped the victim's body in a pond at the scene and fled with TK 4,000 belonging to the victim. He said the arrested accused has been sent to court and efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused.
