News Desk: The posthumous Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) is being given to 107 policemen who sacrificed their lives in Corona in recognition of their bravery and heroic deeds. AKHM Kamrul Ahsan, a public relations officer at the police headquarters, confirmed the information to Jago News on Wednesday (January 5th). According to the police headquarters, when the relatives were leaving the victims in panic after the spread of coronavirus, the police stood by them without caring for their lives. During the Corona massacre, members of the police force did not worry about their own safety. The police have had to act as frontliners in our country as well as all over the world. During the coronation period, 107 proud members of Bangladesh Police have sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the country and the people. So far, more than 26,000 members have been affected.

The victims have recovered and re-engaged themselves in the welfare of the country and the people. The BPM Medal is awarded every year to the members of Bangladesh Police in recognition of their immense bravery and courageous work. The Prime Minister presented the medal to the concerned officers at the annual Police Parade of Police Week every year. The title BPM is added at the end of the names of those who are awarded this post. But this year, 108 policemen who sacrificed their lives in Corona were also awarded the post. Among them are one superintendent of police, two additional superintendents of police, 14 inspectors, 16 SIs, 6 ASIs, 1 Naik, 53 constables, 3 civils and 6 RABs. These 107 proud members will be posthumously awarded the BPM Medal for their dedicated service to the welfare of the country and the people during the Corona period. There was no police week last year due to the Corona epidemic.

At the beginning of 2021, the police headquarters made various efforts for the Police Week program. The highest police award was not given this year as it was not Police Week. However, as the incidence of corona has decreased, BPM is being given the highest award of the police in the new year. Police Week will be held in the middle of January this year. At this time 108 proud members who sacrificed their lives will be awarded posthumous BPM medal for service, bravery and heroic role. In 2020, 118 people received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President's Police Medal (PPM) for their service, bravery and heroic role. In 2019, 349 policemen were awarded BPM-PPM medals. Earlier, 182 officers received BPM-PPM medals in 2016, 132 in 2016, 122 in 2016 and 6 in 2015 respectively. On the other hand, in recognition of commendable and good work, the list of 401 police officers and members of the IGP's Exemplary Good Services Badge (IGP Badge) has been finalized. The second highest police award will be given at this year's Police Week.

On the last day of this year's police week, the nominees in six special categories will be given this award by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed.
