News Desk: In the wake of the coronavirus epidemic, there has been a change in the strict restrictions imposed by the government on banking and financial transactions. Weekly holidays The bank was closed on Sundays except Fridays and Saturdays. And Thursday was a bank holiday. Although the bank was reopened after four consecutive days, there are no customers in the bank. Almost every counter of the banks was empty. However, the customer has some presence in Motijheel Bankpara. Bank officials say most customers have completed the transaction before the all-out restriction. Again, many people are not coming due to the closure of public transport and restrictions on public movement. However, they hope that the transaction will be fully frozen from next week. Meanwhile, the bank has changed the transaction time from Monday (July 5). Earlier, the transactions would continue till 3:30 pm, but from today, the banks will be open from 10 am to 1.30 pm. The bank will be open till 3:30 pm to conduct ancillary activities. Various private and government banks in the capital have been visited today. Although the bank's branches have been opened since this morning, there is not much customer presence in the bank. A large number of those who are going to the bank have come to submit various bills. The same picture has been seen in other branches. On the other hand, the presence of customers in the state-owned Sonali Bank in Motijheel is less than other days. Bank officials say customer attendance was relatively low ahead of the upcoming Eid. Many big customers have come to offer other services including salary-bonus but the number of small and middle class customers is not very high. An official of the private Exim Bank said, "The bank is open today after four days. Customers have already transacted as per the demand, so less is coming today. However, with Eid in mind, I hope the transaction will be normal next week. Earlier, on June 26, Bangladesh Bank's Department of Off-site Supervision issued a circular in this regard. "Essential departments at the bank's head office should be kept open with as little manpower as possible," it said. The principal or main branch of the bank and all foreign trade branches (AD branches) should be kept open with a limited number of essential manpower. It also said that in the case of state-owned banks, one branch can be kept open in each district headquarters and upazila considering the bank management. In case of all other banks, 1 branch should be kept open in the district headquarters and not more than 2 branches can be kept open in the bank management outside the district headquarters. Card transactions and internet banking services should be kept running round the clock. ATM booths should be kept open all the time with adequate supply of notes. Comments (0)
