Thakurgaon Correspondent: Farmers in various unions in Thakurgaon are smiling as the bumper yield of sweet pumpkin is good this time. The yield has been good this time as the District Department of Agricultural Extension has provided free seeds and technical advice to the farmers.

It is learned that farmers have sown various varieties of sweet pumpkin seeds including Black Sweetie, Mitali, Black City Best, and Sohagi in 950 (running) hectares of land in Thakurgaon Sadar, Old Thakurgaon, Akhanagar, Dholarhat, and 21 Union villages. And with the help of these seeds from the agriculture office. The cultivation of sweet pumpkin is increasing day by day in the district due to higher profit at low cost.

Thakurgaon farmers are dreaming of a better future this time as the yield is good. They will see the light of hope if they get the market and the right price at the specified time. If the weather is favorable, farmers will be able to sell sweet pumpkins in the market within the next 15 days. Sadar Upazila Akhangarh farmer said.

Rafiqul Islam Mia said that the total cost of cultivating sweet pumpkin on one bigha of land is 9 to 10 thousand rupees. If the yield is good, the sweet pumpkin produced in one bigha of land will be sold for 25-30 thousand rupees. The farmers said that it is possible to sell pumpkins within 75 to 90 days of sowing in the pumpkin seed land.

Thakurgaon Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension. Abu Hossain said that this time sweet pumpkin has been cultivated in 950 (running) hectares of land in the district. Hybrid sweet pumpkin seeds have been distributed among the farmers through the Department of Agricultural Extension. Technical advice is also being provided to the farmers at the field level.
