News Desk: Nagarpur Correspondent: The blacksmith industry of the workers is on the verge of extinction in Nagarpur of Tangail. Now there is no work of blacksmith industry like before. Only Eid and Puja festivals increase the value of blacksmiths' work. The days of the Nagarpur blacksmith community of Tangail are passing through various crises and hardships throughout the year.

The blacksmiths involved in the blacksmith community are unable to survive as the prices of iron and coal continue to rise. So many people have already left this profession and gone to another profession. According to the blacksmiths involved in the blacksmith industry, for a long time, about a hundred families were involved in the blacksmith industry in different areas of Nagarpur. Who themselves worked as blacksmiths with iron. Many of them have been forced to change their profession as the demand for this industry has gradually decreased and the price of iron and coal has gone up. At present there are more than fifty blacksmith families in Nagarpur. With great difficulty they are living in poverty.

The main reason is that the demand for their work is less than before. Their family life is going through hardships. 10/12 years ago, the heads of about 20 families in Nagarpur Bazar were involved in this profession. At present, there are 6 heads of families involved in this profession. Md. Akhter Karmakar in Nagarpur Bazar told my news, I have been involved in this profession for about 35 years. A few years ago, a sack of charcoal could be bought for 60 to 70 rupees. Besides, 1 mana stone coal was available for 5 to 5 hundred rupees. At present that coal has to be bought for Rs. Earlier, coal was obtained from chalk burned in brick kilns. A lot of coal could be obtained from houses. At present, coal is no longer available as it is a gas stove. The price of blacksmithing goods is rising like the water of a ban. Even a few years ago, 1 kg of iron could be obtained at a price of 30 to 35 rupees. At present that iron has to be bought at 65 to 70 rupees. Besides, good iron is not available in the market like before. To make chapati, spring has to be bought at 110 to 115 rupees instead of 60 rupees. Again, it is found with great difficulty. Coal has to be bought from different areas.

Compared to that, the cost of wages or making has not increased much. Md. Duajani village of the upazila. Badshah Mia (Kamar) told the reporter, "My father was involved in this profession about 70 years ago. I have also been involved in this profession for about 40 years." No one wants to come to this work anew. Because it is very hot, hot iron and working next to the stove fire is very painful. Coal smoke enters their bodies with the breath. As a result, they almost suffer from shortness of breath and abdominal pain. Yet the patriarch cannot leave this profession. He said that the demand for their work increases a little during Eid-Puja.

Especially on Eid-ul-Adha, the daily attendance is around 5 to 600 rupees. At other times attendance is available for 2 to 300 rupees. But sometimes I have to return home with empty pockets. He further said that during Eid and Puja, knives, knives, pots, chapatis, and making smoke fall. However, they are ready for agricultural work Iron tools are regularly made or purchased by farmers. Besides, many people buy foreign knives made of steel from the market. As a result of the declining demand, the workers involved in the blacksmith industry are leaving this profession and moving to other professions. He added that the goodwill and cooperation of the government are needed to keep this industry alive.

From time to time they have had to live their lives the way they do. If this continues, the industry may one day be lost, he said. Alhaj Ahsanuddin, a former headmaster of Nagarpur Jadunath Pilot High School, told reporters on his mobile phone that people in rural areas could afford to buy their materials at low prices. I hope they will turn around again if they get government patronage.
