5 people sentenced to life in murder case

Hasan Jabed from Brahmanbaria: A court has sentenced five accused to life imprisonment and three to one year rigorous imprisonment in a case of murder of a fruit trader named Shawkat Ali over a land dispute in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria. Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Safiul Azam handed down the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. The court's police inspector Kazi Didar Ahmed confirmed the matter.

The accused received life imprisonment, said Syedtula Fakirpara village. Shafiqur Rahman Khandaker (Shafi), Md. Rmoshed Khandaker, Md. Shahed Alam Khandaker, Abdul Hai and Mubarak. Among them are Ramoshed and Mubarak fugitives. Helim Mia, Abul Badshah and Mamun Mia were sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment. Among them Abul Badsha is a fugitive. According to the case sources, on the night of August 13, 2014, due to a land dispute, the people of the opposition planned to kill Shawkat Ali, a resident of Jahangirpara village, a fruit trader at the Annada School junction in Sarail Sadar.

His brother Abdul Baten filed a murder case with Sarail Police Station accusing nine people. Plaintiff Abdul Baten told reporters, "We are not satisfied with the verdict." We will appeal to the high court. "Because it was a premeditated murder, we expected the court to impose the death penalty," said Bashir Ahmed, a plaintiff's lawyer. But we are disappointed with the announcement of the life sentence. This will be appealed to the high court. Incidentally, one of the nine accused in the case, Abul Kashem, died three years ago.
