Education Minister Dipu Moni has said that secondary (SSC) and higher secondary (HSC) examinations may be delayed by two months in the next 2021 academic year. She said this at a press conference on Wednesday (November 25) regarding admission in government and private schools from class I to VIII.

The education minister said the SSC and HSC examinations could be delayed by two months in the 2021 academic year. Because we want students to take classes in a short syllabus for at least three months before the exam.

Dipu Moni further said that the results of HSC 2020 will be released by December. When the class will start again depends on the situation. Everybody has to follow some hygiene rules at the beginning whenever the class starts.

In that case, everyone may not have classes all day. However, more emphasis will be given to SSC and HSC students in class. They will probably take classes all day except one day.

No admission test will be taken for admission in the school this year, the minister said, adding that students will be selected through lottery in all classes from first to ninth.

At present, admission tests are conducted for lottery and other classes only in first class, he said. However, due to the ongoing corona situation, the parents will not be able to be physically present during the lottery ceremony as before.

Dipu Moni said the quota in catchment area (adjacent to school) in Dhaka metropolis will be increased from the existing 40 per cent to 50 per cent this time. Five school choice opportunities will be offered instead of the existing one school choice in the cluster based lottery.

The minister further said that admission in the lottery will be done through full transparency. Strict action will be taken against any educational institution if they charge extra fee at the time of admission. Admission will be completed between 10 and 15 January.

Referring to the upcoming book festival, Dipu Moni said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the book festival on January 1 like every year." However, books will not be distributed by gathering this year. Instructions will be given to the schools on the method of distribution of books.
