News Desk: Band-Aid is a brand of special type of adhesive bandage or dressing. This band-aid is now an important part of the first aid and first aid box. The German word ‘band’ means ‘tape’. So band-aid literally means auxiliary tape. Band-aids are widely used medical equipment for various small cuts.

It is marketed worldwide by the world-renowned Johnson & Johnson, an American company that manufactures a wide range of pharmaceutical and medical equipment. Since its first invention in 1920, Johnson & Johnson's bandage brand has become very popular in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Once considered to be synonymous with adhesive bandages. Nowadays it has reached such a high position that the common people do not know the adhesive bandage, but many people recognize it when they say band-aid. The story of the first invention of the bandage but quite funny. Earl Dixon invented the adhesive bandage.

Earl Dixon's wife's name was Josephine. Josephine often accidentally cut or burned his hands while cutting and cooking vegetables. Earl Dixon then worked for the Johnson & Johnson Company's Highland Park branch in New Jersey. Seeing his wife's plight, he made the bandage by combining two products of the company - tape and gauze cloth. This is where the revolutionary first aid kit was born. Josephine could easily apply the bandage to her wound without anyone's help. Seeing his wife's benefit, Dixon also told a senior official of his company about the bandage. Johnson & Johnson's boss was fascinated by Dixon's invention and began producing it commercially under his company's brand name, Band-Aid.

It is small in size, easy to use on wounds and can be used on its own without the help of anyone else. Earl Dixon's career in the company also accelerated due to this popular discovery. Dixon retired from the company in 1956. Prior to his retirement, he was Vice President of Johnson & Johnson. Although band-aid was invented in 1920, at first it was completely handmade. Johnson & Johnson invented the machine-built band-aid in 1924, and its popularity has grown ever since. By 1939, the worldwide marketing of refined and sterile band-aids began. The band-aid saved the lives of many soldiers during World War II. From 1951, various types of band-aids were introduced.

Popular cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Barbie etc. were created with various designed band-aids. Johnson & Johnson marketed this type of band-aid, primarily for the health care and interests of children and adolescents. Johnson & Johnson later began marketing it as a "band-aid brand adhesive bandage" instead of just "band-aid" to preserve the band-aid's trademark. This year marks the centenary of Earl Dixon's historic discovery. The band-aid and its inventor Earl Dixon as an important first aid tool in daily life will be revered by all for ages to come.
